One quarter of Liberian land has been sold to logging companies in just two years, threatening the country with widespread devastation, according to a report. A new spate of logging contracts in Liberia – the most heavily forested country in west Africa – means that 40% of its forests are under private ownership and risk being flattened by logging companies, says the report. The report, by environmental watchdogs Global Witness, Save My Future Foundation and the Sustainable Development Institute, claimed PUPs had been given to private companies without consulting local groups and in some cases using forged documents. “People being defrauded out of their forest rights at this speed and scale is worrying in itself. When you look at who the forests have been given to, it gets even more alarming,” said Jonathan Gant, of Global Witness. “Giving your forests to companies like that is not a sustainable investment.”However, land reform – one of the issues identified by Liberia’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s final report as a cause of the war – has not yet happened, and is regarded as a threat to peace in the country.

The Globalization of War The “Military Roadmap” to World War III – The Pentagon’s global military design is one of world conquest. The military deployment of US-NATO forces is occurring in several regions of the world simultaneously. The concept of the “Long War” has characterized US military doctrine since the end of World War II. The broader objective of global military dominance in support of an imperial project was first formulated under the Truman administration in the late 1940s at the outset of the Cold War.

Smack of post-colonial arrogance in media-comments in Britain about Ecuador, after they give Asylum to Juilan Assange and its president! The arrogance bred into the British from an early age is possibly best summed up by Cecil Rhodes, the great coloniser of southern Africa: “Remember that you are an Englishman, and have consequently won first prize in the lottery of life.” But the British, in particular, have to do more than just demonstrate balance and evidence; after centuries of lording it over the world, they have to learn respect. Often, that will mean treating foreigners not just as equals but – as in the case of Correa, who has a PhD in economics, and whose commitment to poverty reduction is evidenced by his work with poor communities at a young age – considerably more.

Ecuador’s dismissive media portrayal smacks of post-colonial arrogance The Assange case has sparked much comment about Ecuador and its president – most of it deeply unenlightened Share24 Email Despite winning two successive elections, Ecuador’s president, Rafael Correa, has been described … Continue reading

By our estimates, at least $21 to $32 trillion as of 2010 has been invested virtually tax-free through the worlds still expanding black hole of more than 80 offshore secrecy jurisdictions. Remember: this is just financial wealth. A big share of the real estate, yachts, racehorses, gold bricks and many other things that count as non financial wealth are also owned via offshore structures where it is impossible to identify the owners. Overall Size a significant fraction of global private financial wealth. We are up against one of societys most well entrenched interest groups. After all, theres no interest group more rich and powerful than the rich and powerful, who are the ultimate subjects of our research.

Listen to these Widows and raped women from war-areas, from Irak and Congo, and then think, if you should not be active, to ban wars finally and to resit any new war and to organize a international system of peaceful conflict solution! We should start to unite us on citizen level and then come in dialog with the leaders of this world, to bring peaceful alternatives through and not waste our lives, our dignity, our resources any more! We can achieve this only, if we learn to cooperate with people from all countries, from all religions, with every skin-color, all ethnics! Let us build ties and show those, who preach hatred against each other, that this is the wrong way! There are people in this world, who make money out of wars and occupation and hatred! If the rich elites in our countries think they can make out of a war more money then it costs them, they make the war, independent how much it costs the common people! We as common people should not follow any more, but develop own initiatives and make us competent for it! If we are to late, live will punish us!
